Aldammien A. Sukarno, a Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd), major in Sciences student at the College of Education, has been selected as a principal candidate for the 2025 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program in the United States. Competing against a pool of 1,034 applicants, he emerged as one (1) of only five (5) successful nominees from the Philippines. His achievement highlights his academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to his field.

Reflecting on this milestone, Sukarno shared: "Beyond personal advancement, it has always been the passion to represent my humble beginnings on the global stage that pushed me to apply for Global UGRAD Program."

The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program, funded by the U.S. State Department and administered by the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF), offers promising student leaders a unique opportunity to engage in academic and cultural exchanges at U.S. colleges and universities. As part of the program, Sukarno will take full-time undergraduate courses, interacting with U.S. faculty and peers while gaining firsthand exposure to American academic and classroom culture. This experience is expected to broaden his perspective and enhance his expertise in science education.

As Sukarno embarks on this transformative journey, he brings forth not only his academic aspirations but also the deep cultural heritage of a Tawi-Tawian and a Filipino. Expressing his thoughts, he shares:

"Through this prestigious opportunity, I will not only be able to advance my academic and leadership skills, but also proudly bring with me the culture and narratives of being a Tawi-Tawian and a Filipino to the United States. Truly, with purpose and passion, no goal is ever too far to reach, even if it means applying with less than a 1% chance of getting accepted, competing with thousands of undergrads from across the country and the world. Alhamdulillah for this unexpected plot twist in my undergraduate journey!"

Sukarno’s selection reflects the dedication and excellence of our youth scholars in international academic spaces. As he embraces this new chapter, the University celebrates his success and looks forward to the insights and experiences he will bring back to his community.
