Capture Fisheries & Oceanography

Research on fisheries oceanography, fish stock assessment, and sustainable fishing practices. Studies focus on fisheries management, navigation and seamanship, and the assessment of small-scale commercial fisheries in the Sulu Archipelago.

Aquaculture & Seaweed Farming

Innovative research in aquaculture systems, seaweed cultivation, disease and health management, and feed formulation. Studies explore nutrient enrichment strategies, biological oceanography, and sustainable aquaculture practices for coastal communities.

Post-Harvest Fisheries & Food Technology

Research on fish processing, food engineering, and value-added product development. Studies focus on food preservation techniques, bioactive components extraction, thermodynamics in food processing, and innovative post-harvest technologies.

Algal Biotechnology & Microalgae Production

Advanced research in microalgae cultivation, algal biotechnology, and nutrient optimization. Studies focus on enhancing biochemical composition, lipid accumulation, and optimizing culture conditions for Nannochloropsis and Chlorella species.

Marine Fisheries & Coastal Resource Assessment

Research on marine fisheries assessment, seagrass biodiversity, and coastal resource management. Studies explore species composition, abundance, distribution, and diversity of marine resources in the Sulu Archipelago.

Fish Nutrition & Feed Management

Research on fish nutrition, feed additives, and feed formulation strategies. Studies focus on optimizing feed efficiency, developing sustainable feed alternatives, and enhancing growth performance in aquaculture systems.

Seaweed Consumption & Coastal Community Practices

Research on seaweed consumption practices, traditional knowledge, and community-based resource management in coastal communities. Studies explore cultural integration of marine resources and sustainable harvesting practices in Tawi-Tawi.

₱85-M Halal Research Center to Rise at MSU TCTO, Advancing Halal Innovation in the Bangsamoro

Strengthening its commitment to research, innovation, and community-responsive development, the Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU TCTO) is set to establish a four-storey Halal Research Center with a total project investment of ₱85 million. The facility, which will have a 3,200-square-meter floor area, aims to serve as a hub for halal research, training, product development, and industry collaboration in the Bangsamoro region. Once completed, the Center is expected to support the growing demand for halal-certified products and services while advancing scientific research, professional training, and economic opportunities in the halal industry.
