MSU Tawi-Tawi Participates in Recent ICTED 2024 in Iloilo City

Asst. Prof. Sabrie E. Akmad of the Integrated Laboratory School proudly represented MSU Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography in the recent 11th International Conference on Teacher Education (ICTED), organized by the University of the Philippines-Diliman, held from November 13 to 15 at the Iloilo Convention Center, Iloilo City.

This year's theme, "Preparing Teachers for Education 5.0 Toward Sustainable Futures: Thrusts, Challenges, and Praxis," aimed to examine the extent of how advances in technology have resulted in changes in education (thrusts and praxis); and underscore that technology should serve the best interests of both learners and teachers (UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report, 2023). ICTED 2024 also advocated for the careful, appropriate, equitable, and sustainable use of technology in education and reiterated the significance of using technology for more humanized teaching (challenges).

The theme also encompassed key aspects of Education 5.0, such as generative AI, virtual and augmented reality, and other innovative tools in the context of teacher education and professional development.

The event gathered teacher educators, researchers, policymakers, students, and allied professionals from 18 regions across the Philippines and overseas.

Dr. John W. Creswell, Professor at the University of Michigan, and Dr. Pasi Sahlberg, Professor at the University of Melbourne, served as the keynote speakers. In addition, Dr. Ng Soo Boon, Professor at SEGi University and Colleges, Dr. Hsiu-Lan Shelley Tien, Professor at National Taiwan Normal University, Dr. Christopher P. Monterola, Professor at the Asian Institute of Management, and Dr. Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela, Commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education, were the plenary speakers.

MSU-TCTO's participation in this international conference is part of the university's ongoing internationalization efforts and commitment to improving research productivity.
