Celebrating Linguistic Heritage: SILP and MSU-TCTO Launch Central Sinama Dictionary on International Mother Language Day The Summer Institute of Linguistics Philippines, Inc. (SILP), in partnership with Mindanao State University - Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU-TCTO), proudly launched the Central Sinama Dictionary in celebration of International Mother Language Day on February 21 at the Maas Kamlon Hall, MSU-TCTO.

During the event, two distinguished resource speakers shared their insights: Mr. Jeremiah James of SIL International-Philippines discussed the Central Sinama Dictionary, while Assoc. Prof. Jeffrey Rajik, Chairperson and faculty member of the Language Department, spoke about "The Sinama Language: A Linguistic Treasure of Tawi-Tawi."

The Central Sinama Dictionary was officially presented by Mr. Jeremiah James and Ms. Maria Cecilia Osorio-Van Zante, co-coordinator for the Philippines Language, Education, and Development (LEAD).

Honorable Elmasia Lipae-Madjilon, Commissioner of the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage - Tawi-Tawi, along with other distinguished guests, were present during the event, showing their support for the preservation of the Sinama Language. Commissioner Madjilon, a proud Sama of Tawi-Tawi, delivered an inspiring speech on embracing our identity, supporting the Sama community, and highlighting the significance of cultural heritage in fostering belonging and unity.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension and the Sama Studies Center, spearheaded the event, which was a vibrant celebration of Sama traditions. The event featured cultural performances, and discussions that underscored the rich heritage of the Sinama-speaking community.

The successful launch of the Central Sinama Dictionary signifies a milestone in the preservation and promotion of the Sinama language, fostering a deeper appreciation for the cultural heritage of Tawi-Tawi. This collaborative effort underscores the importance of safeguarding linguistic diversity for future generations.
