The MSU-TCTO College of Education celebrates a historic feat of the successful evaluation of its new proposed adoption of a graduate education program, the Master of Science Education (MSciEd), held at the MSU-TCTO Campus on February 10-11, 2024.

The adopted MSciEd program, composed of three major areas in General Science, Elementary Mathematics, and Mathematics, is designed to link the gaps in science and mathematics learning and performance in elementary, secondary, and tertiary education by enriching teacher quality through excellence in content, pedagogy, research, and extension.

The Evaluators were experts from the Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), who are likewise the main proponents of the adopted MSciEd Curriculum. Leading the Evaluating Team was Prof. Gaudencio C. Petalcorin Jr., the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, with Prof. Monera Salic-Hairulla, the Dean of the College of Education; Prof. Douglas A. Salazar, the Chairperson of the Department of Science and Mathematics Education; and Prof. Amelia T. Buan, the Principal of the IIT Integrated Development School, serving as the members.

Compliant with CHEd guidelines, the Evaluators examined a wide array of indicators including Institutional Recognition, Administration, Graduate Program Manual of Operations, Library, and Support to Research and Creative Works. Document reviews, faculty and staff interviews, and laboratory visits were conducted to look for supporting pieces of evidence of the said indicators.

During the Exit Conference, the Evaluators shared auspicious comments, applauding the college for taking the lead in offering such an invaluable graduate education program in the region. Further, they provided constructive feedback, suggesting ways forward as the college embraces this new academic milestone. With high hopes for great news from the Evaluators, the MSU-TCTO CoEd will be the first Higher Education Institution in Tawi-Tawi to offer the MSciEd program. The college looks forward to implementing this graduate education program with two prospective scholarships beginning August AY 2024-2025.

The MSU-TCTO CoEd, as a pillar of teacher education in the region, continues to uphold to its promise of providing quality education. By bringing relevant graduate education closer to Tawi-Tawian educators, the college hopes to serve as an instrument in elevating teacher quality in the region.
